Location

This significant winterage farm is gloriously set in the heart of The Burren, a renowned karst limestone region famed for its flora and fauna, and famous landmarks including Poulnabrone Dolmen, Mullaghmore Mountain, Aillwee Caves etc.

The Burren is located in north Clare, measures over 530 square kilometres and within the circle made by the towns/villages of Lisdoonvarna, Corofin, Gort and Kinvara.

The Burren National Park covers approximately 1500 hectares, is managed by The National Parks and Wildlife Services and is located in the south eastern corner of The Burren.

The subject farm adjoins The Burren National Park, approximately 4kms from Kilnaboy and the R476 Corofin/Lisdoonvarna Regional Road, and 8kms north of Corofin.

The farm is divided in by the famous Green Road which forms part of The Burren Way, a hiking and walking trail.

Directions

From Corofin proceed to Kilnaboy and take right turn for Mullaghmore. Proceed for 4.5kms to four crossroad junction and take left onto Green Road. Proceed 1km to the entrance gates of the farm.

From Leamanagh Castle take Ballyvaughan Road for 1.3kms, take right turn at junction. Proceed for 3.5kms to end of road and the gateway to farm is across the road.

Description

The Burren offers an unique method of farming-the outwintering of cattle from October/November to March each season.

The subject farm is regarded as one of the finest winterages in The Burren.

It extends to over 137.69 hectares and offers a rolling landscape featuring extensive valley land and forming a plateau at its highest elevations.

Main boundaries are in good condition.

The Green Road, which divides the farm is of huge benefit for access and farm maintenance.

Currently there is over 71.76 hectares of eligible land, which could increase next year under the Area Aid Plan 2023.
